Anna Hixson

January 4, 1930 — April 7, 2021

Anna Mae Hixson, 91, of Scottdale went home to be with Jesus on April 7, 2021.  She was born a daughter of the late George and Anastasia (Szwed) Herrington on January 4, 1930. She became a Christian as a teenager and was a faithful member of Grace fellowship Church, Everson. Anna Mae was involved in children’s ministry for nearly 50 years and also served in many other ministries in the church. She was formerly employed at King Coal and Coke as a secretary, resigning to raise her family. She then worked as a secretary for many years with her husband and son at Hixson Graft, Inc. She was a lovely, kind, generous woman who touched the lives of all she knew.

Anna Mae was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children: Mark (Sharon) Hixson of Scottdale, Sue (Dennis) Booher of Scottdale, Bryan (Hope) Hixson of Sandusky, OH, Todd (Lyn) Hixson of Hyde Park, NY and Emily (Chris) Fantuzzo of Haledon, NJ. Left to honor her memory are 13 grandchildren: Nathan (Heather) Booher, Laura (Jake) Gearhart, Kelly (Brock) Cremean, Kimberly (Corey) Hasel, Cody Hixson, Rachael Hixson, Cory Hixson, Catherine Fantuzzo, Chloe Hixson, Thomas Fantuzzo, Kylee Hixson, Mindi Nutter and Ashley (Paul) Vidale. Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Molly and Luke Booher, Zoey and Brody Nutter, and Francesca and Vivian Vidale. Anna Mae also is survived by her sisters, Mary (Karl) Burkhart and Eleanor Hyatt and a sister-in-law, Doris Brady.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Earl F. Hixson, her son, Earl F. Hixson, Jr., two grandchildren, Jonathan Booher and Anastasia Fantuzzo, and a brother, George Herrington.

Family and friends are invited to Anna Mae’s Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 11 at 3pm in Grace Fellowship Church, 412 Painter St., Everson with the Rev. Lee Maley officiating, assisted by Rev. Dr. Christopher Fantuzzo and Mr. Timothy Shoemaker.  Private interment will take place in the Scottdale Cemetery.  Visitors are asked to follow CDC guidelines including wearing of face masks and social distancing.

Her family extends a heartfelt thanks for the care and kindness shown to our mom and grandma by the staff members of Woodcrest Senior Living Community, St. Anne Home, Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Fellowship Church, Everson, Pa or Operation Smile.
