William E. Smitley, III, 92 of Scottdale, passed away, Sunday, October 3, 2021. He was born January 19, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant a son of the late William E. Smitley, Jr and Nellie Rodgers Smitley.
Bill retired from US Steel Homestead Works and was a graduate of Hurst High School class of 1948. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Scottdale where he was a member of the Dartball League. Bill cherished spending time with his family and his interests include photography, ceramics, fishing and camping. Bill served in the US Army reserves attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was also a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
He is survived by his loving family, two daughters, Allison Kring (Ronald) and Sherri Lanham (Charles), a son, Shawn Smitley and a step-son Richard Smith; five grandchildren, Heather Fazzi (Stephen), Blaine Kring (Michelle), Emily Gerken (Gary), Krista Lanham (Billy), and Ashley Lanham (Matthew); six great-grandchildren, Elijah, Anthony, Amelia, Peter, Theodore and William; a sister, Daisyann Motlok and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Ellen (Mortimer) Smitley, his second wife, Betty M. (Smith) Smitley and a sister, Sally Pearl Legas.
Family and friends are welcome on Sunday from 4-7 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERIVCES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale where his funeral service will take place on Monday at 10 am with Pastor Dale White officiating. Entombment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park with military honors. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Scottdale.
