Viola B. "Pete" Beck, 101, formerly of Scottdale, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008. Mrs. Beck was born January 8, 1907 in Alverton a daughter of the late Harvey G. and Anna Millward Miller.
Viola was a retired schoolteacher having taught in the East Huntingdon and Southmoreland School Districts. She was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church, Scottdale where she belonged to the FRS Sunday School Class, the Women's Missionary Society and was a former Sunday School Teacher. She attended Slippery Rock College and the former California State Teacher's College. Viola held memberships with the PSEA, PASRTA AND NRTA.
She is survived by her loving family which includes, a son, Wayne E. Beck and wife Freya of Erie, CO; a daughter, Eileen Suter and husband James of Ruffsdale; four grandchildren, Michel Beck; Robin Jennings; Scott Suter and Suzy Turack; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Beck, Maya Beck, Beck Jennings and a sister, Ann Mardis of Bunola, Pa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George O. Beck; a son, George C. Beck; and five sisters, Grace Beistel, Lottie Collins, Mary Leasher, Faye Livingston and Frances Strohm.
Family and friends are welcome on Thursday from 1-9 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale (724-887-7110) where services will be held Friday at 11 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Henley and Pastor D. Keith Solomon officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
