Savina Josephine Tulley, 93, of Everson, passed away, Sunday, January 1, 2012 in Harmon House Care Center, Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 28, 1918 in Everson a daughter of the late George and Rose Szczygiel.
Josephine owned and operated Tulley's Beauty Shop in Everson. Years ago, she was employed by the former Bell Telephone Company and she was also a certified tax preparer for H & R Block. She was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II with the Women's Army Corps as a Sergeant. Josephine was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Scottdale and also attended St. Joseph RC Church, Everson where she was married and was a member of the St. Joseph Society. She was also a supporter of the Everson Civic Association.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Virginia Williams and her husband Jack of East Liverpool, OH; Roseann Tulley of Philadelphia and Michele McArdle of Yorktown, VA: a granddaughter, Christa Riley and her husband Alan; three sisters, Angeline Luczka of Everson; Eileen Lewandosky and husband John of White Oak and Mina Lucas of Somerset and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur J. Tulley (November 3, 2002); four brothers, Fr. Michael Szczygiel, Adolph and Walter Szczygiel and Fr. Daniel Szczygiel; sisters, Dolores Szczygiel and Zita Powroznik and an infant sibling.
Family and friends are welcome at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, 724-887-7110, (an Authorized Remembrance Provider) on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm where prayers of transfer will be offered at 9:30 am Thursday followed by her funeral mass at 10 am in St. Joseph RC Church, Everson with Rev. John Sedlak as celebrant. Interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Honor Guard. The St. Joseph Society will recite the rosary on Wednesday at 1:45 pm and a parish wake service will be held on Wednesday at 3 pm both in the funeral home.
