Rita L. Cook, 72 of Scottdale, went to join the heavenly choir on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. She was born September 20, 1935 in Mt. Pleasant a daughter of the late Hale and Polly Chain Johnston.
Rita was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and sister. She was an active and faithful member of Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton where she belonged to the church choir and taught Sunday School. Rita was a well known vocalist in the area singing for various functions. In addition, she was a member and founder along with her late husband Delmar of Rita and the Country C's and the Cook Family Gospel Singers. Most recently she was a vocalist with New Inspirations. Rita is survived by her loving family of five sons, Delmar Cook and wife Joann of Claysville; Douglas Cook and wife Debra of Scottdale; David Cook and wife Debbie of Tarrs; Donald Cook and wife Misty of Everson and Dennis Cook and wife Darlene of Connellsville; nine grandchildren, Lance; Heidi and husband Ron; Melissa, Douglas, Brandi, Brittany, Lewis, Ashley and Christopher; a great-grandson, Dakota; brothers, Wallace Johnston and wife Nancy of Scottdale; William Johnston and wife Joann of Fairfax, VA; sisters, Jane Arment of Muncie, IN: and Doris Taylor of Scottdale and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delmar Henry Cook and a brother Leslie Johnston.
Family and friends are welcome on Saturday from 2-8 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm the hour of funeral services at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale (724-887-7110). Her pastor, Rev. Lee Kline will officiate. Interment will follow in Barren Run Cemetery, S. Huntingdon Twp.
