Larue H. Johnson, 94 of Scottdale passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012, on her 94th birthday in Amber House, Mt. Pleasant.
Larue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who most enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was born November 19, 1918 in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Christian R. and Anna M. (Hudson) Hernley.
Larue was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scottdale where she attended services every Sunday as long as her health allowed. She was a regular fixture at church events, volunteering and providing baked goods. Larue was a very active and young-hearted individual who was not one to sit still. She enjoyed playing cards withe her card club. Larue was proud of her 25 years volunteering as a server at the coffee shop at Frick Hospital. She also enjoyed making beautiful hand-knitted sweaters for her friends and family and was well known for her delicious homemade pies. She was a voracious reader from childhood through her adult years and never wanted to be without a book to read. She made weekly trips to the Scottdale Library in search of the latest bestseller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Johnson on March 20, 1974. Larue was the last surviving sibling in her family.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister; Chris "C.R." Hernley, Lloyd Hernley, Lee Hernley, Anna Mary "Mame" Ross, William R. Hernley and Milton Hernley. She is survived by her children, Patricia L. Bailey, Richard E. (Ruth) Johnson and William (Judith) Johnson, all of Scottdale; five grandchildren, Clifton J. Bailey of Scottdale, Suzanne Bailey, of Florida, Peter I. (Lynsey) Johnson of Cranberry Twp., Kimberly (Ralph) Ermine of Scottdale and Leslie (Dave) Muellerleile of Mt. Pleasant; seven great grandchildren, Alex and Molly Johnson, Zane and Alex Ermine and Zachery, Nathan and Jakob Muellerleile. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Patsy J. Ross of Scottdale, sister-in-law, Shelby Hernley of Palm Bay, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Amber House in Mt. Pleasant and Grane Hospice for their kindness and care. Donations may be made in her memory to the Scottdale Public Library, 106 Spring St., Scottdale, PA 15683.
