John Tarr

April 8, 1923 — July 23, 2008

John C. "Cliff " Tarr, 85 of Scottdale (East Huntingdon Twp.), passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 8, 1923 in East Huntingdon Township a son of the late Frank D. and Lillie F. Browning Tarr.
Cliff retired from B & O Railroad where he was employed as a locomotive engineer with 37-A½ years service. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Scottdale and was a veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II. Cliff also held memberships with the Scottdale VFW Post 7781 and the Connellsville Elks and Moose Lodges.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Margaret L. "Peggy" Porter Tarr whom he married May 29, 1965; his loving daughter, Danette Braunstein and her husband Russell of E. Palestine, OH: his beloved granddaughter, who was the apple of his eye, Maggie Delligatti of E. Palestine, OH; a step-daughter, Carolyn Herbert of Connellsville; several step-grandhildren; two brothers, Eugene Tarr of Scottdale and Nevin E. Tarr of Arizona; several nieces and nephews; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary J. and Alfred Brooks of Connellsville; and special friends and neighbors, Rose and Katherine Spottedbear and Greg Gohn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Tietze, Ruth Smouse and Anna Margaret Tarr.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday from 2 to 9 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale (724-887-7110) where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 am in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church with Fr. Leonard W. Stoviak as celebrant. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville with full military honors bestowed by the Southmoreland Veteran's Association.
