John Clark

July 29, 1926 — February 21, 2014

John Lloyd Clark, 87 of Scottdale, passed away, February 21, 2014 at Walnut Ridge Memory Care in Greensburg after a valiant struggle with cancer and complications from Parkinson's.

He was born July 29, 1926 in Scottdale a son of the J. Lloyd and Mary Campbell Clark.

John was the devoted husband of Nancy McDowell Clark for 62 years. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters, Robert Clark of Scottdale; Wilda Clark Oswald of Everett, WA; Mary Ann George of Twenty Nine Palms, CA; Jay Clark and wife Mabel of Norfolk, VA; Nancy Clark Shupe of Greensburg; Patty Clark Harris and husband Jim of Belle Vernon and Dean Clark and wife Judy of New Stanton and numerous nieces and nephews.

John graduated from Scottdale High School Class of 1944 and at age 17 joined the US Navy during World War II. He served as Seaman First Class on the USS William Pattison in the South Pacific. He graduated from St. Vincent College with a bachelor's degree and earned his Masters degree from the University of Pittsburgh along with additional studies at Penn State College.
He taught for 35 years in the Connellsville High School. While there, he started the computer system department and was head of the Business Department. He was in charge of the lighting crew and helped in the production of ten school musicals. He was very proud of his pupils, the faculty and administration.

John was also active in his community serving as the Scottdale Borough Auditor for 10 years and operated and Income Tax Service with his longtime friend, Charles Fausold for twenty-five years. He was past president of the Scottdale Lions Club and was a member of Clan Campbell and its Sons of the American Revolution. John was a member of the Fayette County Retired Teacher's Association, a lifetime member of the P.S.E.A. and was a past member of the Connellsville Community Choir.

Currently, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Scottdale where he had served as treasurer. John was also an ordained Elder and Trustee of the Calvin United Presbyterian Church and was manager of Camp Redstone for a number of years.
A member of several bridge clubs, John also enjoyed his membership at Pleasant Valley Country Club for many years.

John's greatest pleasure was in the designing and building of his home along with his father. He also enjoyed working on his cottage at Champion, Pa. He and his wife, Nancy took many trips to several islands and to Europe. He also loved his many pet cats during his lifetime.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care given to John by Dr. Robert Tymaczko, Dr. Sauter, Dr. Joseph, Dr. Adisey and Dr. Evans. He enjoyed his caregiver Susan Kelly and the help of Jeanne King and Heartland Hospice. He loved his many friends.

Family and friends will be received at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am with his pastor, Rev. Stephen C. Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery with military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box 343 Scottdale, Pa. 15683 in memory of John L. Clark.
