Jean Cavanaugh

June 17, 1936 — May 20, 2021

Jean Cavanaugh, 84 of Scottdale, PA, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh. She was born June 17, 1936 in Allensville, PA, a daughter of the late Jesse George Hartzler and Bertha Annie (Hertzler) Hartzler.

She graduated from Belleville Mennonite School and attended Eastern Mennonite College. She worked 38 years at the Mennonite Publishing House / Herald Press. After Jean retired, she deeply enjoyed the more than 7,000 hours she served as a volunteer at Frick Memorial Hospital.

Jean was a member of the Scottdale Mennonite Church and occasionally attended services at the Trauger Mennonite Church. Jean was compassionate, soft spoken, and had a gentle, quiet demeanor. She enjoyed her family, friends, baking, canning, and reading. She will be missed.

She is survived by their two sons, Timothy of Scottdale, PA; Stephen and wife Monica of Watkinsville, GA; and two grandchildren, Alexander, and Morgan. She is also survived by siblings Grace Hartzler, John Hartzler, Sarah Miller, and Delmar Hartzler.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rodney (Jerry) Cavanaugh, by a brother, Jay Hartzler, and by a granddaughter, Catherine Skye Cavanaugh.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family under the direction of Graft-Jacquillard Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Scottdale, PA.
