James Povirk

September 16, 1990 — February 3, 2023

James Anton Povirk, 32 of Allison Park, formerly of Alverton, passed away suddenly and was immediately in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, February 3, 2023.  He was born September 16, 1990 in Greensburg the son of Christopher Anton and Laura Elaine (Simon) Povirk.

He trusted Christ as his Savior at an early age and continued to grow in his faith throughout his life.  As much as he liked discussing theological points, he also had a spirit to help anyone in need and give whatever he had, (once, literally the coat off his back.)  Studying God’s word was an important part of his life and he eagerly participated in Bible studies and prayer groups at several churches including Pennsville Baptist, Flatwoods Baptist, and in the Allison Park area.

James was employed  by Phillips Tank and Structure as a welder.  He was a graduate of Southomoreland High School Class of 2009 and he also attended the Virginia Military Institute.  A veteran of the US Marines, James served five years active duty, serving 3 years at Camp Lejeune NC, and 2 years in Japan at Camp Fuji. Most recently, he served in the US Marine Reserves.  James was an Eagle Scout with Troop 160 Everson and enjoyed helping other troops including at the Marine Base in 29 Palms, CA and Camp Fuji.

He was an avid hiker, outdoorsman, and explorer.  He took any opportunity to paddleboard or bike on a trail.  When he was inside, he would pour over books on history, foreign geography, or his favorite newspaper comic strips.  He loved learning and laughing while watching documentaries, UK-Top Gear, and The 3 Stooges.

He is survived by his loving family, father and mother Chris and Laura Povirk; his sister, Lisa Povirk; maternal grandparents, James G. and Gaylene Simon and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Doris Povirk.

Family and friends are invited to James’ visitation at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES,INC.  303 Pittsburgh St, Scottdale on Wednesday from 7-9 pm and Thursday from 2-4- & 6-8 pm.  Additional visitation will take place on Friday from 10:30 – 11 am in Pennsville Baptist Church 3298 Richey Road, Mt. Pleasant where his funeral service will take place at 11 am with Pastor Darrel Evans and Rev. Dr. Terry V.
