A veteran of the US Marines, James served five years active duty, serving 3 years at Camp Lejeune NC, and 2 years in Japan at Camp Fuji. Most recently, he served in the US Marine Reserves. James was an Eagle Scout with Troop 160 Everson and enjoyed helping other troops including at the Marine Base in 29 Palms, CA and Camp Fuji.
He was an avid hiker, outdoorsman, and explorer. He took any opportunity to paddleboard or bike on a trail. When he was inside, he would pour over books on history, foreign geography, or his favorite newspaper comic strips. He loved learning and laughing while watching documentaries, UK-Top Gear, and The 3 Stooges.
He is survived by his loving family, father and mother Chris and Laura Povirk; his sister, Lisa Povirk; maternal grandparents, James G. and Gaylene Simon and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
