Born on July 30, 1966, at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Hamilton “Grante” Roth embarked on a life filled with devoted relationships, remarkable skills, and a sincere faith. On November 17, 2024, at the age of 58, Grante unexpectedly left this world after a brief illness. He resided in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, at the time of his passing.
He was graced with an extraordinary ability to see beauty where others did not, ironic, because he had been born legally blind. This was especially evident in his pursuit of discovering antique treasures. He took what was deemed forgotten, and with great care, restored them to their former glory.
Despite his visual impairment, Grante was blessed with the ability to mend nearly anything mechanical. From an early age he would disassemble lamps, clocks, and telephones to discover how they worked. The result of this seemingly destructive inclination was a talent to repair almost anything from washing machines, to the family car that was to prove especially invaluable to the family over the years.
Grante had a great love for animals. His home was always filled with his beloved dogs, particularly his Springer Spaniel Daisy, reflecting his gentle nature.
He lived a life of profound devotion to his life companion, Darla, for an awe-inspiring forty-one years. Together, they shared innumerable memories of fun and laughter over their lives together.
Beyond everything was the love he had for his daughter, Hannah. She was the light of Grante’s life, and his greatest accomplishment. It is not an overstatement that in all probability the most joyous moments of his life were those he spent in the role of Father to his adored Hannah.
Grante was quite the character; an enigmatic presence with a poker face that was legendary among family and friends. Yet beneath that calm and composed exterior lay a person full of humor, boundless love, and unparalleled friendship. For those lucky enough to call him a friend, he was more than just a confidant; he was the best friend one could ever hope to have. He had a dry sense of humor, and his life observations often left family and friends alike in raucous laughter.
He is survived by his life partner, Darla, his treasured daughter, Hannah, his loving parents, Jonna Martin, and Harry Roth, his cherished siblings, Jonna L.,(Crickett) Roth, Christian Roth, and Holly Roth. To carry on his legacy he also leaves behind two granddaughters, Eloise and Juniper and a grandson (on the way). Grante’s passing is also mourned by his nephews, Spencer, Mackenzie and Kerby.
To honor his memory, a private memorial service will be held for immediate family. The family kindly requests donations to the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in lieu of flowers, carrying forward Grante’s belief in the importance of the work of that institution.
Grante was more than a partner, a father, or a friend; he was an integral part of a closely-knit family. His sudden departure from this life leaves a void that echoes within us, a fragment of our very selves that feels diminished. As we navigate life without him, we hold onto hope, believing that one day we may all be reunited in Heaven. Until then, we ask Grante to watch over us, to wait patiently for the time we meet again. Goodbye, dearest Grante, may you find rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Sleep well until we meet again.
