Florence Smouse
July 11, 1920 — May 2, 2011
Florence Smouse, 90, of Scottdale, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 11, 1920 in East Huntingdon Township a daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Hagerman Hixson.
Mrs. Smouse was a loving homemaker caring for her family. She along with her late husband, J.D. Smouse operated the Smouse Farm in East Huntingdon Township for many years. She was also a member of the Pennsville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving children, a son, Gary L. Smouse of Jefferson Hills; Claudia Smouse of Scottdale; and a grandson, Brian Smouse of Jefferson Hills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Smouse; four sisters, Blanche Fretts, Grace Hough, Gladys Harmon, and Vera Ansell; and five brothers, Gilbert, Vernon, Roy, George and Boyd Hixson.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 8 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, (724-887-7110) where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Robert H. Bixel and Rev. Dr. Terry V. Murray co-officiating. Interment will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, East Huntingdon Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Pennsville Baptist Church Missions or Wesley Chapel Church Missions.
