Fern R. (King) Hixson

Fern lived a blessed life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. He greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and her friends. A woman of faith, Fern was a lifelong member of the Owensdale Church to which her family donated property for the church and parking lot. She further gained insight and wisdom from shows on Cornerstone television and the 700 Club. She always maintained a meticulous home and a detailed appearance when it came to her clothing and style. Baking four inch deep homemade cherry pies was her specialty, as well as, cooking for her family. Never venturing too far from her roots, she enjoyed simple pleasures like car rides, shopping for clothes and choosing the perfect greeting card.
She is survived by her loving and devoted family, including her daughter, Cleda Delgross and her husband, Lewis; two grandsons, Drew Delgross (Michele) and Kurt Delgross; six great-grandchildren, Tony, Garrett, Vince, Savannah, Jordan and Dylan, and many favorite nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cleda and her family wish to acknowledge the many acts of kindness from Fern’s devoted family, friends and caregivers who blessed her life over the years, including visits from Pastor Shawn Robbins and Pastor Brian Swan. A word of thanks is also extended to the staff at Harmon House and Amedisys Hospice for their care and compassion.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Jack M. Hixson who died on July 17, 1994 and her siblings, Merle King, June Batchhelder, Erna Snyder and Zane King.
Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, April 21 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale. Additional visitation will be held on Monday, April 22 from 11 am to 12 pm followed by her funeral service at 12 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Shawn Robbins officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Owensdale Church, PO Box 412 Scottdale, PA 15683.
