Ethel I. (Bair) Carnes, 84, of Scottdale, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in Jeannette at the home of her son. She was born October 13, 1924 in Acme a daughter of the late John and Mary Ziline Shaffer.
Ethel was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scottdale where she was a member of the Women's Circle. She was also a local committee woman for the Republican Party.
She is survived by her loving sons and daughters, Raymond Bair and wife Naomi of Unity Twp; Carol Anne Strother of Winchester, Va; Linda Johnson and husband William of Erie; Gerald Bair and wife Debbie of Hunker; Theresa Johnson and husband Arnold of Erie; Kenneth Bair and wife Carole of Jeannette; an Christina Dorsch and husband Dan of Lilly, Pa; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren and seven step great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Bair (1970); her second husband, Elmer Carnes (1993); five brothers, Franklin, Harry, Elmer, William and Garmer Shaffer and a sister, Mabel Hasley.
