Charles Wood

Charles R. "Dick" Wood, 81 a lifelong resident of Scottdale, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2008 at Harmon House Care Center, Mt. Pleasant. He was born August 14, 1926 in Scottdale a son of the late Charles B. and Beulah Ridenour Wood.

Dick was a 1944 graduate of Scottdale High School and then enlisted in the US Army Air Force. Following service to his country, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951. He was employed by First National Bank of Scottdale and attended banking classes at the American Institute of Banking, Pittsburgh for several years. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he served as vice-president of Gallatin Bank and manager of the Scottdale offices. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Scottdale and was previously a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he played trumpet in the church orchestra. An avid softball player, he played for and managed the St. Paul's Church team. Following his marriage to Laveda Kathryn Boyer in 1950, Dick joined the former United Brethren Church and managed the church softball team. He was a member of Marion Lodge #562 F & AM, Pleasant Valley Country Club and previously served on the Board of Scottdale Library, the Scottdale YMCA, Frick Hospital and was a former member of the Scottdale Rotary, Scottdale BPOE #777 and American Legion Post of Scottdale.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Laveda Kathryn (Boyer) Wood; several nieces and nephews and close friends.

Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale (724-887-7110) where services will be held on Thursday at 11 am with Rev. Dennis Henley officiating. Private interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery. Marion Lodge #562 will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday at 7 pm in the funeral home.
