Betty Rutter

March 25, 1926 — August 13, 2012

Betty Jean Rutter, 86, of Scottdale, passed away, Monday, August 13, 2012 in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. She was born March 25, 1926 in Armbrust a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Kalp) Hull.

Betty Jean retired from Southmoreland School District where she had been employed as a cook at the former Junior High School. She was a fifty year member of Jacob's Creek United Methodist Church, Scottdale where she served a Sunday school teacher, was a certified lay speaker, former church treasurer and member of the Guide Post prayer chain. She was an active volunteer with the Special Olympics and founded The Caring Ones in 2001 helping to coordinate local activities locally for the mentally and physically challenged.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Christian Meader; her second husband Charles William Rutter and her daughter, Fonda Joan Harbarger.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Jadi Ann Rutter of Scottdale; three grandchildren, Christi Smolley (Paul) of Greensburg; Kelli Newell (Terry) of Dunbar and Jami Cottom of Norfolk, Va; three great-grandchildren, Myriah Lose, Merissa Newell and Robert Lose, Jr.; 2 great-great grandchildren, Kooper George and Raylee Sawyer and a nephew Charles H. King, Jr. of Scottdale.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., an authorized remembrance provider, 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, (724) 887-7110. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Kimberly King and the Rev. Roy Butt officiating. Interment will follow in the Alverton Cemetery.
