Alice Werkman

April 22, 1938 — March 18, 2011

Alice M. "Peggy" Werkman, 72 of Scottdale, passed away, Friday, March 18, 2011 in the Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe. She was born, April 22, 1938 in Connellsville a daughter of the late O. Ray and Alice M. (Small) Martz.

Peggy was a graduate of Scottdale High School Class of 1956 and received her degree in Pharmacy from West Virginia University in 1960 where she was a member of the WVU School of Pharmacy Alumni. Peggy was a well-known pharmacist spending her entire 42year career with the former Burn's Drug, Scottdale. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Scottdale and the Klingerman Class of the church. Her memberships included the Braddock Trail Chapter of the D.A.R.; the Saturday Afternoon Club; Scottdale Women's Garden Club and numerous bridge clubs. She was a former member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 383 Scottdale and Pleasant Valley Country Club. Peggy enjoyed the piano and served as accompanist for the Scottdale High School Chorus under the direction of her late mother, Alice M. Martz.

Surviving is her loving husband of 49 years, James R. Werkman; her cherished son, James R.R. Werkman and his companion Sue Pletcher of Scottdale; her faithful dog, Jake; and her loving extended family, cousins, Patty and Frank Rush; Susan Farrell and Jim Marth and many special friends.

Family and friends will be received at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale (724-887-7110) on Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am in the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Stephen C. Moore and Rev. Thomas Shirer co-officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township.
