Alice Alt

April 27, 1932 — January 17, 2011

Alice Marguerite "Mini" Alt, 78, of Scottdale, died Monday, January 17, 2011 with family by her side at her son's home.

"Mini" was preceded in death by her oldest son, William F. "Bill" Alt, her parents John T. and Alice Marguerite Brough; her brother Robert Brough and a sister Jane Weaver.

Loved by her family and life-long friends from Butler, PA, "Mini" enjoyed traveling to Florida, New England and especially Butler where they visited at The Hot Dog Shop. Her Scottdale friends were also a joy to her as they visited museums, went on house tours, lunched and shopped at Miss Marty's Tea Room or just sat in her dining room and talked. She was well known by children and adults in Scottdale for her baking, especially her delicious chocolate chip cookies.

"Mini" was a founding member of the Scottdale Women's Garden Club and was a member of card and book clubs. She was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She worked at Frick Hospital for 23 years in the lab and X Ray Departments and cherished her friendships there. A smart, proud, tough and funny mother of five boys she spent many hours attending school open houses and athletic events for her children and grandchildren. Her attendance at these events will be missed as will the daily phone calls made to her by each of her sons. She made each son feel as though they were "her favorite".

"Mini" is survived by her sons Mark Alt (Shirley) of Brooklyn Center, MN, Brian Alt (Carol) of Moorestown, NJ, David Alt (Brenda) Greensburg, PA and Matthew Alt (Dawn) of Gulf Breeze, FL; grandchildren, Erica Alt Favocci (Ray), Sarah Alt, Cameron Alt, Tyler Alt, Christian Lyman, Brian Lehman, Scott Lehman, Whitney Holland and Hayes Holland. One new great grandchild, Madison Rose Holland; a daughter-in-law, Joann Alt of Meshoppen, PA; Sisters Mary Bell, Joann Kiser and sister-in-law, Rose Brough all of Butler, PA. She also has many well-loved nieces and nephews from Butler to California.

Family and friends will be received at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale (724-887-7110) on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm the hour of a memorial service with Rev. Dennis M. Henley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to The Scottdale Public Library 106 Spring St. Scottdale, of which "Mini" was a proud member.
