Alex E. Kovacs, 82 of Scottdale, passed away, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Kovacs was born August 24, 1930 in South Huntingdon Township a son of the late Alex J. and Sophie Agnes (Yasko) Kovacs.
He was a 1948 graduate of McKeesport High School. He received his undergraduate degree from California State Teachers College followed by a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1952. Alex served as a sergeant in the United States Army Security Agency. Prior to his retirement, he was a mechanical drawing teacher in the Connellsville Area School District and then served as a high school guidance counselor. He was also a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant.
Alex is survived by his loving wife, Emma Jean (Gerbin) Kovacs; his devoted son, James A. Kovacs and his wife Kimberly (Shotts); his grandson, Samuel J. Kovacs; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores K. Sebastian & Carmine P. Sebastian; his brothers and sisters in law, Paul "Nick" Gerbin; Barbara Gerbin Costello; Mary Gerbin Steele; Kay Gerbin Ferris and Leonard Gerbin, as well as, several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale on Thursday from 2 until 8 pm. Prayers of Transfer will recited on Friday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant with Father John A. Sedlak as celebrant. Interment will follow in Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A parish wake service will be held at 3 pm Thursday in the funeral home.
