Grace U. Johnson, 93 of Scottdale, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born April 29, 1929 in Scottdale a daughter of the late Clayton L. and Edna (Fretts) Uber.
Years ago, Grace worked as a secretary at H.F. Uber & Sons, now The Uber Company. She began assisting as a reading aide for the Southmoreland School District , eventually working as a secretary to the Superintendent and in the payroll department. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Scottdale where she was very active serving as an elder, deacon and a member of the Altar Guild. She also volunteered for numerous church activities, dinners and candy making. She was a member of and past Worthy Matron for the Order of Eastern Star #383 and the Rainbow Girls Assembly No. 13. Grace was a member of the D.A.R. Braddock Trail Chapter and the Hearts and Hands Quilt Guild, and the Women’s Saturday Afternoon Club of Scottdale and Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by her loving family, her two sons, Ret. Colonel Charles D. Johnson and his wife Virginia Frank Johnson; Eric U. Johnson and his husband Jeffrey Hertrick; two grandchildren, Amanda F. Johnson and Captain Carl W. Johnson and his fiancée Kate Melone; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Seaman and Sandra Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl D. Johnson on October 6, 2013; her brother, Clayton L. Uber, Jr., and her sister, Mary Jane Riley.
Family and friends are welcome on Sunday from 1-3 & 5-7 at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale where services will be held Monday at 11 am with her pastor, Rev. T.J. Lucas officiating. Interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Reformed U.C.C 106 N.
