Rodney Cavanaugh

December 11, 1936 — June 9, 2018

Rodney (Jerry) Cavanaugh, 81 of Scottdale went to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Harmon House Care Center, Mt. Pleasant.  He was born December 11, 1936 in Bullskin Township a son of the late Charles Donald and Dorothy Ellen Williams Cavanaugh.

He graduated from the former Connellsville High School in 1954.  He served two years in 1W service at Norristown State Hospital in lieu of military service.  He then worked at Duraloy Technologies for 36 years in a number of different departments.  After his retirement he volunteered at Frick Hospital for a total of 7,905 hours. Many of those hours were spent at the Information Desk where he was a greeter, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Jerry was a member of the Scottdale Mennonite Church and occasionally attended services at the Trauger Mennonite Church where he appreciated learning to know and love all the wonderful people in their congregation.  He had many hobbies and was a fan of organ recitals.  He also enjoyed his small garden, flowers, carousels, local history, cooking and writing articles for Mennonite Family History magazine.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean (Hartzler) Cavanaugh, his two sons, Timothy and companion Jill Kulig, of Enola; Stephen and wife Monica of Harrisonburg, VA; his two grandchildren, Alexander and Morgan. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Faye Miskove; his brother, Dennis Cavanaugh and wife Sue; his sister-in- law, Joyce Cavanaugh; his nephews and niece, Michael Miskove (Wanda); Scott Cavanaugh; Sherrie Thropp (Scott); David Cavanaugh (Jeannie); and Ryan Cavanaugh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Cavanaugh, a brother in law, Glenn Miskove, and a granddaughter, Catherine Skye Cavanaugh.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, June 18 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, where services will immediately follow at 8 pm with Mark Peachy of Scottdale Mennonite Church officiating and Lloyd Beiler of the Trauger Mennonite Church, co-officiating.
