Joseph Scott

January 19, 1929 — January 23, 2016

Joseph E. Scott, 87, of Scottdale, passed away, Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Walnut Ridge Memory Care, Greensburg.  He was born January 19, 1929 in Uniontown a son of the late Joseph H. Scott and Ella Zana (Smith) Scott.

He was a 1947 graduate of Uniontown High School and proudly served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.  Joseph worked for Bell Telephone, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon for 46 years, first in Uniontown and then in Greensburg.  He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Scottdale, where he was a long time member of the choir, a past Sunday School Superintendent, and a member of various church committees.  He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Masonic Lodge, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and the Syria Shrine, Pittsburgh.  He enjoyed playing the trumpet for many years in the Syria Shrine Band and the Scottdale Community Band.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years Marjorie (Loetzbeier) Bakken Scott; a daughter, Nancy Dove and husband Marquis of Mt. Pleasant, a son, Richard Scott of Leonardtown, MD; and a step-son, Jonathan (Tammy) Bakken of Piedmont, SC; his grandchildren, Lindsey Dove, Tyler Scott, and Allie Scott, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Jane Seese Scott in 1997 and two sisters, Coral Williams and Louise Tate.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the loving care received by AseraCare Hospice and Walnut Ridge Memory Care.

Honoring Joe’s wishes, there will be no public viewing.  The family is inviting friends to attend Joe’s memorial service on Wednesday at 1 pm in Trinity United Methodist Church, 501 Mulberry St., Scottdale with the Rev. Harry R.
