Dorothy Leonard

February 24, 1927 — March 24, 2017

Dorothy Ann Leonard, 90, of Scottdale, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living, Latrobe.  She was born February 24, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Kaczmarek) Grabiak.

For a number of years, Dorothy had been employed as an office manager for an auto dealership. Her passion was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family.  She loved family vacations to the beach and staying active.  Following retirement, Dorothy and her late husband Clair, retired to Lakeland, Florida and enjoyed going to Disney World for shows and dining at various hotels.  They enjoyed golfing and were members of the Sandpiper Golf and Country Club. Locally, she had been a member of Pleasant Valley Country Club, the former Scottdale Women’s Garden Club and attended the New Stanton United Methodist Church. Dorothy was a very social person and enjoyed being around people. She also enjoyed playing bridge.  Additionally, she had a love for animals and gained much enjoyment from her cat, Paris and her dog, Layla.

She was a loving and caring mother to her four daughters who survive, Bonnie Dzambo (John); Jodi Leonard (fiancé, Harley); Jan Leonard and Chrissy Leonard (Karl); nine grandchildren, Amy Dzambo; Jamey Hall; Adam Hall (Jesse); Ryan Nicklow (Ashley); Philip Dzambo (Kayla); Christian Leonard; Alex Zelenka; Taryn Leonard and Emily Zelenka; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Cassidy, Jackson and Levon Hall; her brother, Frank Grabiak (Eileen) and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clair R. Leonard; a grandson, David Dzambo and a brother, Ray Grabiak.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks for those involved with Dorothy’s care including, the staff at Woodcrest Senior Living Community, RNC Greensburg, Brookdale Senior Living and Promise Hospice, all of whom provided tender care and support to her and the family.

Dorothy’s family will receive friends at her Remembrance Gathering on Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale where her memorial service will take place at 7 pm with Pastor Bonnie King officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Promise Hospice Patient Care Fund 121 N. Main St. Suite 310 Greensburg, PA 15601.
